Induction Spotlight- Chase Reid
2008 Gull to be inducted to HOF July 18
Chase Reid was a flamethrower for the
Newport Gulls 2008 squad. After an
award-filled high school career, Reid
committed to play college baseball
for the Vanderbilt Commodores, one
of the nation’s premier programs.
Following his freshman campaign with
the Commodores, the hard-throwing
right-hander headed north to Newport
for his first summer of collegiate league
baseball and quickly became one of the
most electric pitchers in the league.
Reid carved his name into the record
books – not just for Newport, but for
the entire New England Collegiate
Baseball League. He still holds the
NECBL single-game record with 19 strikeouts, a dominant performance
that showcased his overpowering fastball and ability to miss bats at an elite
level. That historic outing became one of the defining moments of the Gulls’
2008 season and helped earn Reid NECBL Rookie of the Year honors.
Throughout the summer, he established himself as one of the league’s
toughest arms to face and a key piece of Newport’s pitching staff. Reid
later continued his baseball journey professionally in the St. Louis Cardinals
organization, where he spent three seasons developing through the minor
leagues.
Across his professional career, Reid logged 146 innings with a 3.70 ERA
while recording 139 strikeouts, further proving the talent and potential
that made him such a standout during his memorable summer in Newport.
Chase resides in Santa Fe, NM with his wife Alyson and two daughters Ava
(10) and Elsie (8).
